Well done, Amy, welcome to the wonderful world of Making More Plants!!

If you don't mind the odd suggestion or two, I would say that it's generally best to nip off the flower in each case: you want the plant to stop wasting energy on flowers, and put it all into making roots.

It can also help to remove quite a lot of the leaves: I know that sounds counter-intuitive, as they need their leaves to photosynthesize, don't they? But leaves also take a lot of energy to maintain, plus they "use" a lot of water, and reducing the quantity of leaves allows the plant to concentrate on rooting. Also, the cutting will often react to the stress by dropping leaves anyway, which can be quite alarming - at least if you removed them yourself, you don't get a nasty shock when you find dead leaves lying around!
