Hi Naomi. I would be very doubtful as to whether there is enough of the summer left to grow melons at the stage yours are at. I started mine at the start of May and they have just started producing melons of a reasonable size, and they are still yet to ripen. Ideally, they need to grow undercover with plenty of warmth and light. I also plant them into raised beds full of manure with upturned turf at the bottom.

I'm not that advanced yet, to give you a better idea i only have about 5 plant pots with things in so far! I got 2 tomatoes last week and was over joyed!
I thought maybe some one with a posh heated green house would see these baby melons and want to rescue them, I feel really bad that they are going to die! I'm really new to this and really should of read up more on it before just sticking them in soil! X

When I do manage to get a green house,,,, do you mean I should make raised beds INSIDE it with manure? Would that create enough heat through winter? or would I still need a heater? ,,, or is is just pointless? X

Yes, I believe they are called Hotbeds. I have them in my polytunnel, which only cost around £100 online. You could even have a Hotbed placed in a cold frame. I would think that you would also need some artificial grow lamps to grow them through winter. Personally, I would just wait until next spring.
Don't worry about making mistakes. Its trial and error a lot of the time. If you persevere, you will find what works for you.
