What wild plant is this?

  • What wild plant is this?

I saw this rather striking wild plant growing on the trunk of a large beech tree at the weekend.
Can anyone tell me what it is? Thanks

I think it is 'Navelwort' (named that because of the navel-like leaves). Sometimes it's also called 'Wall Pennywort'. Latin name is Umbilicus rupestris, and if it is this plant, the leaves are edible and tasty!

Thanks Geri (Good Earth Gardens), your identification looks spot on and we didn't have a photo for the plant record. If it's OK Karen, we'll use yours. It's a good example of the leaf, the flower and where it grows.
