Eucalyptus deglupta

This is a very interesting tree, grows fast when young. The bark has more vibrant colour bark when younger and the leaves give off a pleasant smell. The leaves turn from a lighter green to a nice dark green colour. I found these very hardy despite what some magazines say. I have had them outside in -12 as seedlings (2 yrs old ) and they bounce back very well. They will not grow as tall in our (subtropical!!) climate as in Hawaii etc. They can grow 25 metres+ but here are a little smaller! Only thing is as they grow quick it means I have to repot a little more often then I want to, but put in a bigger pot they make fantastic specimens when bigger as sold a few.

Hi Chris - I am fascinated to hear you are growing Eucalyptus deglupta successfully here without bringing them indoors in winter. It is an amazing looking tree. Do you have any photos? Do the trees achieve the rainbow colours they have in hotter climates?

Hi Jeremy pictures will follow, they are in pots, the colours do change but i have not seen the vivid colours as in other pictures as they are still young but due to our (tropical !) climate i am not too sure they will ever be as vivid in colour
