White fly menace.

Hi, can any one recommend a treatment to rid the glass house of white fly ? I had an overwhelming infestation last year and fumigated the glass house twice after emptying it of tomatoes and plants. Washed down with Jeyes fluid after. This year they are back again although there have been sticky traps up since the start of the season. Have sprayed the ornamental plants several times but nothing seems to be knocking these guys down. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Winifred, we did discuss this same problem earlier this year, you might like to read that post.

These little pests drift in from outside, so your greenhouse was probably beautifully clear of them when the season began, but they found their way back in from outside - or possibly, they came in with any new plants which you bought in earlier this year.

I liked Jim's suggestion, in the earlier post, about collecting ladybirds from the garden and shoving them into the greenhouse! Mind you, I have my own opinions about Organic Pest Control as it didn't work on the lupins!

    Hope this helps.....

Thank you Rachel, I did put a few ladybirds in early in the year but didn't see them after! Hovering would be a H... of a job with so many ornamental plants thick with leaves to go over. A vacuum would do a lot more damage too. I might try one of those smaller battery car type ones. Here's hoping. Regards Win

I will save some seeds from my Nicandra plants (shoo fly) if you'll like some for next year. They grow very quick and have beautiful poppy like flowers always have one in the greenhouse, but you will need quite a large pot as they're best at 3-4ft tall.
