Hosta "Cherry Berry"

Hi Darren, I have just looked at a picture of a Hosta Cherry Berry, it looks beautiful. I must look out for one of these, they are a lovely plant and the description is interesting too. I know slugs love to eat them, I actually managed to keep one of my Hostas in a pot last year and it wasn't touched. Maybe it's because the pot was a bit rough on the outside, I also put egg shells in the pot, to protect it. I don't know the name of mine. I would like to start a collection.

    Hi Liz,

Hostas are great, I have over 80 varieties now, pots are a great way to keep them though sometimes I think they grow better in the ground.

I do have one or two divisions that I can let you have but not sure of the varieties as yet. Sad.y my cherry berry isn't ready for splitting yet.

I'd be more than happy to chat about Hostas or gardening any time :)

Oooh they are lovely! I'd be interested in having some too when they are going :)

Cherry berry is a good variety, a bit thin in the leaf perhaps but striking when in flower. It divides quite well, the eyes are fairly spaced apart as it is stoloniferous. I put it into tissue culture a few years ago so have hundreds here! I'll try and get a photograph of them posted later.

Here are a couple of photographs of Hosta Cherry Berry, in 1l pots. They come up quite pale and the colours get sharper as the season progresses.
