Sparce hedgerow?

There is an evergreen hedgerow that divides the front of our neighbour's house from ours. Unfortunately our side is very bare with lots of branches but hardly any leaves and so it looks almost dead. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to revive it? For about a year we have been pruning it to encourage re-growth but it's been very slow. Thanks RW

Hello sorry I don't know the name but it's an evergreen with small leaves and it's the type of hedgerow that divides many houses up and down the country. It's not hawthorn that much i do know!

Hello R&G. Can you add a photo - that would really help.

Getting a proper ID will go a long way to being offered the best advice also how does their side look like, you don't say. Knowing this information would possibly help rule out disease or something other sinister cause.
