Premature bulbs?

My daffodils (and I've noticed a lot of others in Manchester too) are already shooting and about to put out flower stems. Will they die back in next week's frosts? I have hundreds of them so can't individually wrap them and as some of them have 15cm leaves now I'm not sure throwing bark or mulch on top will be practical.

HI Heather, Your daffs will be fine with a bit of frost, they are designed to cope with the cold weather. I guess the main problem would be a really prolonged period of cold with a fair amount of snow: you may not see them any more ... but generally they will be OK. They will slow down a bit for if it gets REALLY cold and continue when they get a bit of sun. Don't be afraid to pick a bunch or two and bring them into the house, you will get a lot of benefit from a vase on the windowsill

Good advice from Ian; If you mulch the daffs they will just grow long and spindly. The problem this year is the cold snap in November that stimulated seasonal growth early. I have catkins on a hazel, magnolias in bud and there are still daisies in the Mersey Valley where I walk my dogs. It is going to be a strange year.

I have Clematis 'Apple Blossom' trying to flower, 3 months before it should, this weather is crazy,

Some Daffs outdoors have been in flower here in Bromley BR2 for last few weeks (this year - 2016).
