Hot water remedy

  • Hot water remedy

if you like me are fed up with weed killers being diluted by the rain and your paving still grouted with 'green', a quick fix that my mother used is worth using. After making a cuppa, use up any very hot water left in the kettle on the dreaded weeds. It works very quickly and well. A few weeks back I heard this method mentioned on Gardeners' Question Time, I think by Bob Flowerdew. In the picture the green in the cracks is Helexine which I love and spare the hot water.

Agreed, particularly for patios by the kitchen where it's most convenient. What I particularly like is that it's a good 'organic' solution that avoids using harmful weedkillers at all.

And it's quite good at disposing of any ants undermining the patio, as well!

Rachel, I forgot that about the ants! Yes, Ma did dispose of troublesome nests the same way.

Susie, I had a Client once who used to swear by sprinkling talcum powder on ants, on the grounds that it was a lot cheaper than ant powder, and did the job just as well. I never did get around to trying it out for myself....

    I must try that sometime!
