Family heirloom peony

One of the peonies in my garden has come from my mums house, and she said that she got it from her grandmothers garden, so its always a special moment when the first flower blossoms.

Wow, do Peony plants live a long time ? I bought my first one last year, so looks like i will have it a long time :)

The bulbous roots grow so that you can divide and multiply them. If my mum was right (and I've got no reason to think she would have been mistaken) my peony could be 80ys old! It'll be new growth of the root bulb, but I like to think of it as the same plant my great grandmother had. They are fairly sturdy, so hopefully you will have years of pleasure from your peony too. 🙂

I've heard peonies can live 100 years or more - they are one of the longest lived perennials.
