Last year it produced a good display but this year one branch grew well then turned yellow and died so I cut it off. Then another smaller branch has turned yellow and since the photos were taken has also dried up. There is a very small green area of growth coming up from the base but am thinking it will do the same and turn yellow?!
Any ideas why this is happening?

This is perfectly normal, they always die back in the summer and re-emerge next spring. You can mulch the area and put a marker in to remind you not to dig it up! Then it will com back just as strong next year.

Just realised its not in the ground - would probably be happier (dormant) if you can plant it out.

But it didn't even flower that's the problem!
Yes probably but we are renting at the moment so can't plant out. (We did have one in a pot for several years in a pot doing well and flowering each year)
