This is a memo to myself, but I may as well share it anyway, as it will probably come in handy. Now is the best time to take all those hardwood cuttings, I find, just as the last of the leaves drop. You can take them in October, but that is extra work to me in trimming the leaves. As you prune the roses take a few prunings from favourites as hardwood cuttings. I always get a high percentage strike now and no nasty suckers on resulting plants. I need to take cuttings from a lovely Dipelta, which I bought years ago and left in the pot. The plant consequently rooted in the ground and is too large for where it is, still sporting its original pot at its base. whoops!! The time is now to sort it out.
