GreenPlantSwap is Gardening Website of the Year

  • GreenPlantSwap is Gardening Website of the Year

On Monday night, I'm delighted to say, GreenPlantSwap was announced Website of the Year in the Gardening category of the Good Web Guide Awards 2016.

After 4 years slog, it's certainly a treat to have won it. And it's hard to believe that the site we launched with just a dozen or so members in the Glastonbury area in March 2013 has grown as it has. In most areas of the country now there are 100 or more members within a few miles ... and the numbers continue to grow.

This bodes well for the future, because LOCAL is what GreenPlantSwap is all about. We want to help you engage with other gardeners near you, for plants, for open gardens and for the pleasure that gardening shared with others can bring. The more members there are locally, the stronger our free service becomes for everyone.

So I think really we should be thanking you. It's GreenPlantSwap members who make the site great. Without you and all your content, there's no way we would have won the Award.

Thank you!

What super news to brighten up a dull Autumn day!

Thanks Suzi, with all the rain we nearly didn't make it to the Awards event in London to hear if we'd won. But glad we did!

Well deserved I'd say and not before time!
    Congratulations Jeremy

Thanks Jackie - and thank you for being one of the very first NGS Open Gardens to use the service back in 2013.

In this our first year with a free, self-serve events feature members posted over 200 events, which was hugely encouraging.

For 2017 we're adding some new free features that I believe will make Open Gardens and Plant sales even more effective at attracting visitors and raising money.

These should be released in February.

Thank you Linda and Caroline. The reward is great, but the most exciting thing will always be the people this site engages. We'll keep working at that!

Excellent! Congratulations, Jeremy, on a well-deserved Award: you've worked tirelessly to promote and enhance this site, so well done you!

Compare this to a plant you've saught, grown from a tiny seed, nurtured, after 4 years it flowers and gets noticed. I know this is only an analogy, but both take time, care , hard work and dedication, and now your plant has bloomed, let's hope for sweet berries, may the web sight go on from strength to strength, to coin Eric Robson, 'Onwards and upwards' and congratulations for this award so far, it must be a proud moment.

Robert and Rachel. Thank you both! Rachel - no less tireless than you as a contributor this past year; and Robert great to see the exciting start you've made with your first two posts.

Congratulations Jeremy, a brilliant concept, coupled with your tireless enthusiasm, time and funding have resulted in this justified award - well done.

I love your analogy Rob, and there is many a time I have said to myself something along the lines of 'don't expect too much it's only a sapling'. Stephen (Pelargonium Blue) back of my mind still is how we can do more, per our discussions, to help the Plant Societies and National Collections. It will come! Thank you both for your kind words.

    How exciting!
    And well deserved Jeremy, congratulations!
It’s been fascinating to see the transformations from when I joined up in April 2013 – so many new features to the website – and so many new members!
    Here’s to the next 4 years :-)

    Good Earth Gardens

Yay! That's so cool! Congratulations! :-)

Thank you Angie, Helene and Gerry (Good Earth Gardens)! What I find such a pleasure with GPS is the new friends you make who travel with you through the seasons. And even though you may never meet, you gradually get to know them.

I recommend anyone who hasn't yet to read Gerry's so candid post about Gardening, depression and well being; Helene's delightful and informative posts with great photos, such as Trillium cuneatum - little ballerina in the garden; and Angie's recent chilling post A whole week of Frost about the first frosts in Scotland, or delightful little one at the end of Winter last year about Bringing your snowdrops indoors.

It's members like you who make GreenPlantSwap special.

Thanks Ruth - good to hear from you. Do hope you and Derek are well too. We'd welcome a post about Derek's amazing wire sculptures. In a garden setting, they look so life-like and ethereal.
