Free plants? Yes, nothing to pay and no swap required.
Over the winter we added a new 'free' tick box on the plant listing form and quite a number of Growers are now using it.
The idea behind it is that we all tend to get over-crowded borders or gardens before long, and offering plants free is an excellent way to move them on to new homes where they will be appreciated.
You don't even have to dig up the plants, as you can say on the listing that 'the plant is free to the first person who comes and digs it up'.
Indeed you can add any terms you like. If you are selling plants, for example, it could be that you offer one free plant to anyone who visits.
And if you have a plant that has just grown to big, it can be a good way to get some free labour to move it!
Of course, if you enjoy swapping plants or like having nicely packaged ones delivered to your door, then it may not be for you.
But if you have an empty garden and are happy to lend a hand digging up the plants, it's a great way to get started and meet other local gardeners.
What's exciting is that we are getting an interesting range of free plants. They are not all the obvious candidates!
Note: the listings in the right hand column are just plants offered near you (and includes swap/sale plants). Click on the tag links above and you will find all the free ones on the plant record pages.
If you have not signed up, or are logged out, it will show plants nearest our example Glastonbury location.
