Cuphea cyanea

  • Cuphea cyanea

Very long flowering little plant for a warm sunny spot. Flowers from July to November. It's not particularly hardy, but it regrew for me after the frosts cut it back for the winter, and it strikes from cuttings incredibly easily so you can keep a few as 'insurance', as with Salvias.

Hi Will - we agree it's a great value plant. Because of it's long flowering, it was popular with the Victorians for mass planting.

It comes from Mexico, where it grows in pastures and woodland clearings. Rich in oils, it is also now used in the bio fuel industry.

Could we use your photo on the plant record?

Yes, you can. I added the picture because I thought it deserved one - I was actually looking for a way of submitting a picture for the plant record! Any pictures I add are taken by me and you have my permission to use them on the site.
