You can also divide shrubs that produce dense clumps of stems and those that produce suckers.
Cut back the stems to reduce water loss, then lift the plant when dormant and divide into suitable portions. Discard any old sections with few roots.
Replant in well-prepared soil at the same depth as the plant was originally growing.
